Market Day 2019

Dollar Day Market

Image result for $1 sign

Yesterday, Whakamanawa had a dollar day market to fundraise for the Year 6 Dinner. It was a very fun day and it was nice selling and buying from other people.

Ethan & I had a game where we shuffled some cups and you have to find where the candy was. If you chose fruit burst, you got two turns, lollipops are one turn. For the seniors, we had double cups so we took the cups out of the first one so they'll get confused.

Only one person got it wrong but they chose a fruit burst so they got another try. I got five market money to spend so I bought a juicie, cola, sausage sizzle, and some drawings. Ethan & I took turns buying and selling.

In the end, Ethan & I got around $50 profit but we actually got $53 without subtracting the costs. The whole class got over 1000 dollars! I can't believe we got that much profit!

My e-asTTle Writing

e-asTTle Writing

I've done some writing for my e-asTTle test. It's a bit different from the original e-asTTle writing because I've edited it a bit. There are also some visuals so you can see a picture in your head of my writing.

I'm confident in my writing.

Comment what I could work on next.

Hygiene Slide

Hygiene

To be healthy, you need to have good hygiene. You will have a lower chance to get sick if you have good hygiene. Some examples are brushing teeth, taking regular showers, etc.

Ethan H, Reco and I have made a slide about hygiene and how to have good personal hygiene.

I hope this taught you how to have good hygiene

I've gotten the information from Te Ara Takitini site.

My House Collage

House Collage

I've made a collage for cyber smart.

A collage is a picture made out of different images or media. This is my house collage made of different textures.

I learned how to do this on the Te Ara Takitini site.

I made this using Google Drawings and the explore tool.

Value of the Week: Friendliness

Friendliness

This week, our value is being friendly. There are positive outcomes for the senior hub and we have to answer the questions of what we have done for the last month.

This google drawing was made by Cayleigh, Trinity and I.

Being friendly is good because you'll have more friends and people will make people think you're a nice person.

Sun Smart

Be Sun Smart

Yesterday, we had a guest come to teach about sun safety and why you get sunburnt.

Lighter colored skin people get sunburnt faster and darker-skinned people get sunburnt slower. This is also why people have light and dark skin, people with darker skin originate from more hotter areas.

Sunburns aren't caused by heat but it's the UV(Ultraviolet) rays that the sun emits damage your skin. The only way you can get sunburnt in winter is by going to a mountain.

From September to March or April especially at 10-4 o clock. You need some defense against these UV rays. Clothes are a great defense because they cover up your skin from the UV rays. The shade is good to protect yourself from UV. Hats and sunblock are good to protect you from UV rays too.

The tips of your ears, your neck, and your arms are vulnerable to UV rays.

Hats with holes in them are bad because UV rays can still go through the holes.

Even if you don't get sunburnt the UV rays will still damage your skin increasing chances of skin cancer! Getting sunburnt a lot when you're young will increase your chance of skin cancer when you're older. Using sunbeds are very dangerous because your chances of skin cancer will skyrocket!

The reason why you get a tan is that your skin is crying for help and they make melanin to protect itself.

Mat Manners

Mat Manners

This week's expectation is Mat Manners, we made a google drawing about mat manner goals but it's very hard to think of things I need to work on.

I think I'm great at mat manners.

How well are you at mat manners?

Strong Not Wrong

Focus On Your Strengths

A few days ago, I made a DLO about focusing on what is strong, not wrong. I've made a Venn diagram about what I think my strengths and what people say my strengths are.

You can get better at strengths if you practice a lot. Programming and scripting are fun because you can keep trying and you can create something out of it. Drawing is the same too.

Fanimals Visit

Image result for fanimals

Fanimals is a TV show about animals and they are on TVNZ at 4pm

Today, people from Fanimals visited and they brought in a golden retriever dog named Molson. It was like a whole school assembly because everyone in the school came. People that watched Fanimals asked questions about the animals and the show. Every person in the school had a chance to pat Molson. It took a while for our class to have a chance to pat Molson.

We got a card with a picture and an autograph. Our class had an extra chance of patting Molson, we had a class photo and most of the class wanted to pat Molson for a second time including myself.

The visit was fun, I hope they will come back again.

SMART Goals 2019

SMART Goals

Kia ora, this year I have been doing SMART Goals. SMART stands for something that's why it's in all capitals.

S = Specific - It has to be specific so that you know when you've achieved your goal.
M = Measurable - Can your goal be measured for progress?
A = Attainable - Can you physically do the goal in the time limit?
R = Realistic - Don't make a goal that is too hard.
T = Timed - There is a time that you have to complete it.

Thanks for viewing the post.

Time of my life

Time Of My Life

Hi everyone, this is a slide about my daily routine for school and the times it happens.

I made this using Google Slides.

My least favourite thing about my day is waking up in the morning when I'm tired.

My favourite part about my day is the feeling after showering because I feel nice and fresh.

What is your favourite part of your day?

Telling the time

Telling The Time Slide

Hi everyone, for strand math, we have been learning about time and how to tell the time. Here is a slide about what I've done.

I hope you liked this slide and you learned something today.

Treating Others

Treating Others Value

Orana Park Trip

Orana Park

Yesterday, the whole Takitini hub went to Orana Park and it was all free!

We visited the Tasmanian devils and we learned that they are nocturnal. An interesting fact was that they can give animals a type of infectious cancer through its bite. A Tasmanian devil's life expectancy is about 6-7 years old. Pumba is 8 years old and he is the oldest Tasmanian devil.

A Tasmanian devil sleeping

We saw a tiger and Elizabeth the teacher said that tigers are endangered and there are only a few thousand wild tigers left.

We visited the lions, there were five lions in the cage and they feed them many kinds of meat. The male lions don't have any manes because they don't have the hormone to grow a mane and all of the energy to grow a mane just goes into the growth.

Lions in the cage

When we visited the spider monkeys, Elizabeth said that the difference between apes and monkeys are that monkeys have a tail and they have longer legs and shorter arms. Apes don't have tails, longer arms, and shorter legs.

When we were walking over to the kea, a vehicle was passing by and a bird was making noises at the vehicle. Keas had a bad reputation and one time the government put a bounty on them because they were such a pest. They are also an intelligent bird with an IQ of a 3 or 4-year-old.

After lunch, we went to the farm place, we saw chickens, llamas, pigs a peacock that was spreading its feathers and that bird that was making that weird sound.

I also learned that white rhinos are named white rhino because there is a word in Afrikaans that sounds like white and it actually means wide. Rhinos are getting hunted for their horns.

An animal called the waterbuck needs to drink water every single day. Animals followed the waterbuck because they always knew how to get water.

When we visited the cheetahs, we couldn't find any and the whole class had to look for them. After a while, we were on our way to the gorillas and we saw the cheetahs! They were far away and they were near the pole. I really wanted to see them run, but they didn't run.

When we went over to the gorillas, they were resting and they acted like they were humans. Did you know that they share 98% of human DNA with us, humans?

We walked over to the orangutans on the other side. One was covered in a sheet and the other orangutan looked like it was hugging the other orangutan. Meanwhile, the other orangutan was eating grass.

The trip was fun, I wish I could go back again.

All About Chickens

Chickens
In literacy, we made information reports about an animal and I wrote one about chickens. Chickens are an interesting animal if you know more about them. Here is an information report about the animal.

I made this using google slides and I found the information from various websites.

I hope you learnt something about this slide and tell me what you learnt about this post in the comments!

Classroom Environment

Values Week 7

For values this week, we are looking after the classroom environment. I've already made a version of this before so I've scored the class, the hub, and myself.

I've made this using Google Drawings.

Do you think this is accurate? What do you rate yourself, the class and the hub?

Rounding and Compensating

Math Work Week 7

This is my math for this week, it is Rounding and Compensating. Here is a Google drawing to explain the strategy.

If you can't click the video, click this

I got the video from the Takitini site. I like this strategy because it makes the equation easier by splitting it.

Last week's value was sharing, here is a Google Drawing about what I was going to do.

I did very well sharing my things and ideas.

I made this from google drawings

I rate myself a 3 out of 3 for my sharing.

Breaktime Expectations

Breaktime

This week's expectation is break time, we made a google drawing about the expectation.

My next step is to try to work on doing the stuff I said to do in the doc.
