Te Tiriti o Waitingi

Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Last week in Hurumanu 1 we have been learning more about Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We wrote down some notes about the video and here are some of them:

The Maori population was around 100,000 in the late 1830s but it later dropped to 70 to 80 thousand. The reason for the big drop in the population was war and disease.
The main settlement in New Zealand was Kororakea or Russell.

France tried to colonize New Zealand, a person named Edward Gibbon Wakefield set up the New Zealand Company. The British sent William Hobson to set up the Treaty of Waitangi because they were worried French would lead Maori to extinction.

There was a problem about the Treaty of Waitangi, a missionary and his son translated all of it in one night and there were some mistakes. Some of the words were wrongly translated, maybe it was on accident because they were rushing and had to do it in one night or they might have done it on purpose.

The treaty has been neglected like it was under piles of paper, got soaked in water, gnawed by rats and was almost lost in a fire. Here is how it looks now

Healthy Lifestyles: Time Series Data

Time Series Data
By Kareem

This week in Hurumanu 6, we have been learning about Time Series Data.

In Time Series Data there is a frequency along the side and a label. On the bottom is the time for example 2001, 2002, 2003. Put your label under there too. You need a title or else people won't know what the graph is for. There should also be a line going horizontal or diagonal depending on the frequency.

Here is an example of time series data:

You get ten dollars every week, here is your money at the end of Sunday each week. On the left is a table of how much money you have by the end of each week and on the right is a graph.

Apple Advertisement

This week in the health section of Healthy Lifestyles, we've been looking at advertisements and what we had to do is make an advertisement for a product that is good for your health like water or fruit.

Jaren, Isaiah and I made an advertisement about apples. We also put a celebrity because more people will like it if there is a famous person in there.

Hornby Athletics Day

Yesterday was Hornby High's Athletics Day I participated in 60m, Shot Put, Discus and Long Jump.

CARR Values were clearly demonstrated by the other students in the school by participating in Athletics.

I demonstrated the CARR Values by participating and trying my best.

I am particularly proud of getting 4th place in the 60m run.

Next year I will try to join competitive instead of social.
