This is an example of a pie chart for favourite types of movies. The most popular type of movie is Romance with 6 votes and the least popular is Drama with only 1 vote.

Make sure if you're drawing a pie chart and you add up all of the percentages it should always add up to 100%.

Who Are We?

Who Are We

In Hurumanu, we have been learning about Who Are We. We also learnt about how New Zealand was discovered.

Polynesians travelled to different countries using waka and people think it evolved over time. First there was a basic boat and then they added an outrigger, it evolved into a double hull and then a sail.

They used the waka to travel to different countries including Taiwan, Philippines, Pacific Islands etc. They may have travelled all the way to South America using the waka. New Zealand was their final discovery and they say it was discovered around 700 years ago.

Someone was chasing a big octopus that was stealing their fish, while they were chasing the octopus they found New Zealand and it was named Aotearoa after the long cloud above it.

They moved to New Zealand to protect their food and nobody would steal it.
